The Ford 2.3L is a good engine however, so I decided to go with a more powerful version.  This engine came out of an '86 Mustang SVO.  This engine is turbocharged, intercooled and fuel injected and is rated at 200 hp, 240 ft-lbs torque.  Unlike most other high performance 4 cyl. engines, this one makes power at a relatively low 4400 RPM.  I had swapped an identical engine once before into a '79 Mustang.  It really made that Mustang move, it was much faster than most stock 5.0L Mustangs.  It should provide all the power I need in a nice lightweight package.  The one concern I have however is the turbo can kick in unexpectedly.  The SVO electronics feature a premium fuel switch that switches the max boost from 7 lbs to 17+ lbs.  I may try to incorporate a third option to cut out the boost altogether for rocks and any other precarious situations.
