The Jeep came with a Ford 2.3L four cylinder engine out of an '80 Pinto when I got it. I actually helped with this swap long before I owned it. The carbureted 2.3L is rated at 88 hp and is a big improvement over the 60 hp L134 that originally came in CJ-3As. This particular engine ran Ok, but was starting to get a bit tired. It smoked a bit, used and leaked oil, and was sometimes difficult to start. The installation also left a bit to be desired, so I decided to replace it. |
